Rihanna’s Fenty label is big winner at Fashion Awards 2019

Rihanna’s Fenty label is big winner at Fashion Awards 2019. Barbadian Singer, Rihanna saw her fashion label Fenty win the Urban Luxe category at the Fashion Awards last evening. The 31-year old saw her fashion label honoured at the glitzy event at Royal Albert Hall in London.

Rihanna received the award by Tyler, the Creator and Michael Jackson’s sister and singer Janet Jackson. 53-year Jackson told the “Umbrella” singer “You are loved for your style” as she presented the singer with her accolade. Rihanna first launched her Fenty label under luxury fashion group LVMH back in May 2019.

The music star already owns her own lingerie brand named, Savage X Fenty that she launched in 2018. Rihanna said she was thankful to the British Fashion Council and her collaborators for her award .

The designer was previously nominated for her Fenty x Puma collaboration back in 2017.Other winners on the night were Super Model, Naomi Campbell who received the Fashion Icon award. In her tearful acceptance speech, Naomi said her award was a deeply humbling experience.

Campbell thanked fellow Super Models Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss and Christy Turlington, referring to them as her “sisters for life.” She also thanked the late Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Naomi Campbell pointed out that she was the “first woman of colour to receive this award” before thanking women who she said had come before her, including Janet Jackson, Tina Turner, Iman, Bethann Hardison and Eartha Kitt.

As a staunch campaigner for inclusivity in fashion and one of the founders of the Diversity Coalition, Naomi called for “diversity in the workplace and in everything we do.”

The Fashion Awards also honoured UK fashion designer, Daniel Lee who revamped fashion label Bottega Veneta since taking the helm in 2018. Daniel picked up four awards that included: British designer of the year womenswear, designer of the year, accessories designer of the year and brand of the year.

South Sudanese-Australian model, Adut Akech won model of the year. Iconic Italian fashion designer, Giorgio Armani received the outstanding achievement award. This was presented to him on the night by Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett.

Sustainable fashion wasn’t left out on the night. The collective signatories of the fashion industry charter for climate change which included Stella McCartney, Burberry and Nike, won the positive change award, for individuals and fashion brands who are making concerted efforts to be more sustainable.
