5 easy tips on how to walk gracefully in heels. As we approach the festive season, it’s inevitable that you will be wearing heels at some stage. From office parties to after-work drinks, it will be impossible to avoid wearing a pair of pumps.
So to help you avoid any embarrassment this holiday season, we’ve put together 5 easy tips on how to walk in heels the right way.
Find your fit
Finding shoes that fit you is the first step in being able to walk in them. Heels that are too small will hurt your feet and cause blisters. Heels that are too big will slip off the back of your heel when walking. The right fit should feel comfortable and keep your foot in place.
If you aren’t used to wearing heels, opt for styles with an ankle strap. This will hold your foot in place and give you some added stability.
Go for quality
While it’s tempting to pick up a cheap pair of pumps to go with your outfit, refrain from doing so. More than likely, you will end up with sore feet due to poorly made footwear.
Good quality shoes can make all the difference when it comes to comfort. Test shoes while shopping to see if they are stable and well made. Check for anti-slip sole grip so that you don’t go sliding on a slippery dance floor.
Break them in
Like with any shoes you buy, it’s best to break them in. wearing your new shoes for short periods of time will help mould them to the shape of your foot and make it easier for you to wear them for longer periods.
Insoles are great for adding comfort to new shoes and can keep your feet from sliding around in larger styles.
Take your time
It’s important to take your time and slow things down as you find your stride. You will naturally take shorter and smaller steps in heels than in flats, but you don’t need to be in a rush. Taking your times will help you exude confidence. Place one foot in front of the other and imagine a straight line when you walk.
Mind your posture
You body tends to lean forward when you walk in heels as it tries to adjust to your slanting feet. This may leave you feeling unbalanced and put unnecessary pressure on the balls of your feet.
Stand up straight and centre your weight back on your heels. Keep your shoulders back and hold in your core when you walk. Centre your head on top of your spine and keep your chin parallel to the floor. Doing this will correct your posture and help make you feel more confident as you strut your stuff.
