How to use coconut oil in your beauty routine. People using coconut oil in their daily lives isn’t anything new.

It’s incredibly popular and with good reason.

As well as having many healthy benefits, this versatile oil can be just as beneficial to your beauty routine.

Thanks to its high fatty acid content and natural antibacterial properties, coconut oil can tame frizz, moisturise skin, remove makeup and many more.

Here are just some of the ways to incorporate coconut oil into your beauty routine.

Makeup remover

Coconut oil is a great way for removing even the toughest of makeup. Warm up some coconut oil between your hands and work it into your skin. The oil will soften and break down your makeup. Use your favourite cleanser to get all the oil and makeup off your face and follow with your skincare routine.

Fix dry and damaged hair

Coconut oil can be an excellent hair moisturiser but can be difficult to remove in its raw form. Coconut oil is intensely moisturising and is particularly good for naturally curly hair types. It works to hydrate and nourish your hair, transforming dull locks into thick, swishy and shiny hair.

Just remember, a little goes a long way.

Body scrub

Combine a tablespoon with a tablespoon of ground coffee and you’ve got yourself a great body scrub mix. Not only will the coconut oil moisturise skin, but the coffee will gently exfoliate to remove any dead and dry skin. Plus, you’ll smell amazing.

Body moisturiser

If you’re looking for an affordable moisturiser, use coconut oil. Not only will you smell like coconuts, but your skin will look and feel nourished.

Tame frizz

If you struggle with frizzy strands, coconut oil can help. Rub a small bit between your fingers and run through particularly frizzy areas to leave your hair looking smooth and polished.

Minimise dandruff

Coconut oil can help reduce the levels of yeast on the skin that can cause flaking, and itching associated with dandruff. Heat some coconut oil and massage into your scalp. Let the oil sit for 30 minutes and then wash out with shampoo.

DIY lip balm

Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of coconut butter and 2 tablespoons of beeswax to a heat-resistant measuring cup and melt over a pot of water. Remove from heat and carefully pour into lip balm containers or an empty jar. Cover immediately and cool.

There you go, your very own lip balm.

Freshen breathe

Heard of oil pulling? Swish some coconut oil around in your mouth may pull disease-causing bacteria out of your mouth.

Oil pulling generates antioxidants which damage the cell wall of microorganisms and kills them.

Just swirl around some coconut oil in your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes before breakfast until it turns a milky colour and spit it out in the bin (not the sink, as it can clog your pipes) and rinse with water.

Oil pulling should not replace your daily dental hygiene routine – brushing and flossing is still a must.
