5 reasons to ditch black eyeliner for brown

5 reasons to ditch black eyeliner for brown. Brown eyeliner has a bit of a bad rep. It often gets cast aside as ‘boring’, ‘everyday’ and ‘office appropriate’.

Its’ that one beauty product that is bought in a rush and then banged up in our makeup bags. But, in reality, it might just be one of the most important makeup products.

Here are 5 reasons to break your love affair with black eyeliner and reach for a brown one instead.

A more subtle look

One of the best reasons to wear brown eyeliner is how subtle it can look. Black liner on the waterline can make your eyes look smaller. Brown liner makes them look smaller but it’s a bit more natural. Well…as natural as you can get with makeup. It will still give the look of an underlined eye, but without the high does of drama you’d associate with black liner.

You can wear the hue comfortably throughout the day. Not to mention, you can pair it with a red lip without the fear of looking more bar-ready than office-ready.

But you don’t have to skip the drama

Of course, there are times when you want your makeup to look dramatic. And brown liner can work well here. The color is soft, but still dark enough to give a subtle flair to your makeup look.

Brown liner has taken center stage on the runway, with big-names like Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and Natasha Poly spotted wearing a high-shine, dramatic brown smoky eye.

Trace some brown liner thickly around the top and bottom lashes. Scribble some black liner along the top lashes only and buff out the pigment with a shadow brush. Top the whole thing off with some clear eye gloss and you’ve got yourself a runway-worthy look.

The brown will warm the look up and keep it from looking rough and tough but instead incredibly sexy.

It can make your lashes look longer

Black liner tends to cover up your lashes, making them look barely noticeable. To make your lashes look longer, apply a brown eyeliner pencil from the outer edges halfway along the top and bottom lash line. Try to apply it as closely to the root as possible and blend it out with a tiny blending brush before it sets. Don’t apply on the waterline.

It’s quick, easy and looks natural while making your lashes look longer and fuller.

It can match your eye colour

According to the beauty gods, different colours look better on certain eyes.

If you have hazel eyes and want them to stand out, warm browns, taupe and plum shades will make them look brighter.

It’s multipurpose

Multipurpose products are perfect if you’re a bit lazy with your makeup routine. Or if you travel and don’t want to bring your entire makeup collection with you.

As mention before, you can create a quick smoky eye using brown eyeliner, but it has other uses as well.

It can be used for your brows. It might take a bit of trial and error to find the right shade, but a brown eye pencil is perfect for when you’re in a jam.

If you have brown gel liner, mix a small dot with your favourite foundation onto the back of your hand. When blended together, you’ll have a creamy contour shade that will give you killer cheekbones in a flash.
