Irish fashion designer Róisín Gartland. Talented Irish fashion designer, Róisín Gartland is an interdisciplinary artist and leather expert whose own fashion label is renowned for high quality design and splendid craftsmanship. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Dun Laoghaire Institute Of Art Design + Technology as well as a Master of Fine Arts from the National College of Art and Design her in Ireland.
Working from her Design Tower in Dublin 2 where she first set up back in 1988, Róisín’s developed her leather-working skills based on inspiration of a vibrant era of fashion designs in Ireland during the seventies and eighties where she development her skills as a designer and artist that inspired her fashion designs of today!
Róisín believes that pattern formation and transformation play an important part in the design and production of her collections. Her method doesn’t follow a consecutive path, but instead places itself at the crossroads between various disciplines where she believes there is no barrier in her mind between design, art, or craft work.
Her work is artistic that retains a strength of character and deep understanding of her choice of material used in her creations. Her accomplishments within the fashion industry are certainly worth noting as back in 2015 she is was the recipient of quite a few awards in the fashion industry including her being crowned winner of the Fashion Award Showcase for 2015. In the same she also went on to win the Leatherwork category in the National Craft Competition and also winner of the Clothing and Covering Award, IDI 2015.
In 2016 she was also recognised for her designs where she was crowned winner in the Leatherwork category, National Craft Competition, 2016; with her work also selected for DCCOI ‘Portfolio’ 2017-18.
Róisín has a clear understanding for the choice of notable leathers and lambskins as part of her creations that helps her to produce creative timeless pieces of fashion and accessories for the wearer to cherish. Several of Róisín’s collections are also housed at locations across Dublin including the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, Dublin.
She also plays her part at sharing her wealth of experience and passing it on to future designers of Ireland as she mentors with DCCoI which is a national development organisation for the crafts and design industry in Ireland.
Fans of Róisín’s work can purchase lines from her latest collections at Havana Boutique in Dublin 4 or Granny’s Bottom Drawer in Kinsale, Co Cork. As well as collaborating with other talented fashion designers, she also holds leather workshops twice a year during the spring and autumn months at her design studio.
