The Alexa Chung X Barbour collection is finally here. Alexa Chung has teamed up with Barbour to design her own collection of jackets, just in time for festival season.
The 35-year-old designer explained what Barbour means to her.
She told Vogue: “I have so many memories wearing Barbour but the earliest are the most nostalgic and therefore special.”
From the Hampshire lanes of her childhood to the muddy fields of Glastonbury, the check-lined jacket has been a constant in Alexa’s wardrobe, making her decision to partner with the British heritage brand a no-brainer.
“It was an opportunity for me to explore how the Alexa Chung brand interprets an iconic and historic label that is woven into the British psyche.” she added.
A research trip to Barbour HQ in South Shields was a dream for the designer, with Chung saying: “I was let loose, like a kid in a candy store, into a room filled with every single Barbour piece through history.”
The collection is made up of seven pieces of outerwear, three tote bags and the bucket hat.
And the good news is that Barbour by ALEXACHUNG will span two years and four collections in total.
When it came to the design, Chung added her own nuances to the collection.
“I often turn up the sleeves of my Barbour because I tend to like the sleeves a bit shorter in the arm so you can show of the lining. You look at any image of me in Barbour from yesteryear, you will see that I often turn up the sleeves of the jackets.”
She explained: “One thing we have introduced in some of the styles are the clothing labels on the exterior yoke of the outerwear. The unique logo for the collaboration was taken from the archive, and re-imagined in some cases with a natural, ochre background colour.”
The first drop launched in June 9th with the second happening in August.
