Rihanna launches luxury fashion brand with LVMH. A bold trendsetter in the music world, Rihanna is also breaking barriers in the beauty and fashion industries.
The Barbadian singer has partnered with the historic LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton fashion house, becoming the first woman of colour to have a label under LVMH and the first woman to start an original brand for the world’s largest luxury group.
The new label, Fenty, is an expansion of her cosmetics empire of the same name and will include ready-to-wear clothing, shoes and accessories.
Fenty will launch this spring 2019 season as the first house established by the group since Christian Lacroix in 1987, joining brands such as Dior, Givenchy and Fendi.
In a statement from the LVMH group, Rihanna said: “Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us.”
“Mr. [Bernard] Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits.”
With her huge fan base and nearly 170 million social media followers, Rihanna is one of the most powerful style influencers in the world.
A new scale luxury brand, especially one led by a woman of colour, is a huge development in the fashion industry.
A regular on the front row of fashion shows, Rihanna has proven herself to be a canny creator.
As well as the existing Fenty sportswear line, the singer upped sales in Puma when she became the creative director and her Fenty Beauty racked up more than $100 million within the first few weeks of its 2016 launch.
Speaking in a statement, LVMH’s Arnault praised Rihanna, saying: “Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO and a terrific leader.”
