How Alexa Chung accessorised for Met Gala 2019. British model and fashion designer, Alexa Chung has revealed why it was important for her to have matching accessories to match for her fashion look at the 2019 Met Gala last Monday night.
The model come fashion designer walked the red carpet wearing a custom made long-sleeved floral shift dress that was complete with a matching bag and beret, which was designed by her own eponymous fashion label at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art event in New York.
Chung’s motivation behind the idea for matching accessories was to provide a different interpretation of this year’s theme Camp: Notes on Fashion.
Chatting to the UK fashion version of, Vogue, Chung said: “I wanted to consider how other people will realise the theme of ‘camp’ and ensure we, as the Alexa Chung brand, are different in our approach. Having every accessory matching felt really wrong and therefore so right. The ultimate goal was to create an iconic look for my imaginary comeback tour if I were a lead singer instead of a hobbying karaoke goer.”
The 35 year UK designer came up with the idea for this year’s costume look” Austen goes Disco” while on a trip to the Design Library in London.
The fashion guru came across a jacquard jacket, styled back in the middle 1700’s France and used this as the source of inspiration for her stunning mini backless dress. Chung who introduced her own label to the fashion world back in May 2017, admits that she first began reinterpreting the design into her sketch book while imitating the floral embroidery which was then digitised and subsequently sent to craftsmen across in India.
She goes on to reveal that hundreds of sequins had to be embroidered onto the silk knee-length gown, which she accessorised with a matching beret and handbag, that was inspired by Diana Ross “90’s” look. Alexa completed her sensual fashion look with a pair of Perspex sequined wedges and diamond studs and pearl rings.
The British TV presenter kept her brown locks tousled beside her face with her make-up offering a French chic look which was complimented with cherry red lipstick and sultry cat eye.
