Why Iskra Lawrence wants curvy women to break the rules. For Iskra Lawrence, the red carpet is about more than looking glamorous.
The model, 28, is an advocate for body positivity and self-care and says she feels a personal responsibility to set an example when she gets dressed up for events.
The British model told Page Six: ““Being curvier, I think it’s important to break the rules and I think it’s important to show that you’re confident in whatever you wear and make an impact on the red carpet when, for so long, we’ve only seen one body type and size make waves.”
“I’m really trying to break through and say that no matter what size you are, you can rock it.”
A National Eating Disorder Ambassador, Lawrence is trouble by the fact that many fashion brands that offer plus-size limit their clothes to stretchy, skintight tops and dresses.
She explained: ““I feel the pressure to not wear body-con all the time when so many shapes and so many obvious go-tos are tight; I really try to push back on that.”
And the model has revealed her haircare tips, especially when her tresses are constantly blow-dried, curled or straightened for a shoot or event.
“I started braiding [my hair] at night and putting a mini tie at the bottom. I do hair masks all the time. I’ll do a mixture of Kérastase or coconut oil now and again,” she explains, adding that she uses Teleties – she has recently launched her own range with the brand – to avoid breakage and damage when she wears a ponytail.
