Calvin Klein is shutting down its runway collection. After the unexpected departure of their creative director Raf Simons last year and skipping a season of New York Fashion Week, it seems Calvin Klein is done with its runway collection.
According to reports from WWD, the American fashion brand is shutting down its Calvin Klein Collection label, which became known as CalvinKlein205W39NYC under Simons in 2017.
Simons’ vision under the CalvinKlein205W39NYC line was apparently too luxe for Calvin Klein’s core customers who prefer the brand’s denim, fragrance and underwear divisions.
After Simon’s exit, the company said in January that it was planning to rebrand the line and was looking for a successor.
The decision to now terminate the line, as well as close its New York store, will result in 100 redundancies across New York and Milan.
There are also plans to close its Milan office.
Calvin Klein first began showing at New York Fashion Week in 1994. The brand instantly became known for their cool, minimalistic designs and helped shape 90s fashion.
