Hot Metal hits Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet

By  |

Hot Metal hits Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet. It’s dubbed the Oscars of the East Coast, and the Met Gala event lived up to its reputation on Monday night as some of the biggest names in music, film, and the runway arrived wearing ornate costumes created by the world’s premier fashion designers.

This year, the Costume Institute ball was centred around the idea of “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” exploring the relationship between clothes created by hand (or “manus”) versus the machine.

While many stars chose metallic looks in honour of this year’s theme, and nailed it, some we were not so keen on.

Here’s our verdict on last night’s style:

Nicole Kidman - Met Gala 2016 - Alexander McQueen

The Glourious: Nicole Kidman in a glittering Alexander McQueen gown with matching cape

Kate Bosworth - MEt Gala 2016 - Dolce & Gabbana

The Good: We’re getting modern-day My Fair Lady vibes from Kate Bosworth’s intricate Dolce & Gabbana gown

Poppy Delevingne - Met Gala 2016 - Marchesa

The Great is may be too heavy and too detailed for some, but we’re obsessed with Poppy Delevingne’s Marchesa gown.

Beyoncé - Met Gala 2016 - Givenchy

The Weird – But Working: Seriously Beyoncé seldom gets it wrong, and she’s nailed it again in this peach latex Givenchy number

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - Met Gala 2016 - Ralph Lauren

Simple – Yet Elegant: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is flawless in Ralph Lauren

Zoe Saldana - Met Gala 2016 - Dolce & Gabbana

The Dramatic: On a night dominated by leather bralettes and Dr. Martens,  Zoe Saldana bring a refreshing change in Dolce & Gabbana

Ciara - Met Gala 2016 - Custom H&M

The Daring: We’ve seen a lot of silver at this event, but rarely so well-executed as here on Ciara in Custom H&M

Kylie Jenner - Met Gala 2016 - Balmain

The Playing It Safe: A Kardashian-Jenner in sparkling, sheer Balmain? Kylie Jenner isn’t straying too far from familiar territory in this beaded Balmain number

Kim & Kayne - Met Gala 2016 - Balmain

The On-Theme: They’re both in Balmain, of course, and Kardashian looks straight out of the 1926 scifi film. Check out Kayne’s contacts

Selena Gomez- Met Gala 2016 - Louis Vuitton

The Meh: Selena Gomez looks pretty overwhelming in head to toe Louis Vuitton. All those polka dots?

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid - Met Gala 2016 - Versace & Tommy Hilfiger

The “You Tried”: Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid’s red carpet debut as a couple. Malik has opted to wear the sleeves of a suit of armour in Versace, while Hadid’s in Tommy Hilfiger with her hair sprayed silver, and looking pretty fabulous

Alicia Vikander - Met Gala 2016 - Louis Vuitton

The Too Much: Of course Alicia Vikander is in Louis Vuitton. This red carpet alliance can go one of two ways, but today isn’t one of the winners

Michelle Williams - Met Gala 2016 - Louis Vuitton

The Bad: Louis Vuitton also lumped Michelle Williams with a bit of a dud

Taylor Swift - Met Gala 2016 - Louis Vuitton

The Early Worst: Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton looks like a discarded Project Runway entry

Madonna- Met Gala 2016 - Givenchy

The Worst, Surely: While it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, this “Egyptian mummy into hardcore bondage” look is courtesy of Givenchy

Sarah Jessica Parker - Met Gala 2016 - Monse

The Eyebrow Raiser: We’re not quite sure what to make of SJP’s Monse Gala look. She has been described as a “luxury pirate at a wedding” (Not good!)
