Deadliest Catch’s Captain Phil Harris
Deadliest Catch star Captain Phil Harris is dead after suffering complications from a stroke.
Phil Harris was 53.
The stroke occurred on January 31st when Harris was off-loading his fishing boat, The Cornelia Marie, in Alaska. He was airlifted to an Anchorage hospital where doctors had to medically induced a coma in order to reduce brain swelling. Phil awoke from the coma just days ago, and told doctors and nurses, “Don’t f*ck up!”
He seemed to be improving and was even back to talking like a sailor. His sons, Jake and Josh, said they were “encouraged but still very cautious” about his condition. However, somehow his condition deteriorated and he died at approximately 7:30pm PST Tuesday.
Jake & Josh have released the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad, Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.”
My heart sank when I read he was dead. As I told many of you before, Phil Harris was a member of my community here in Washington. He was often seen riding his Harley around, and was loved by many. He will truly, truly, be missed. Our thoughts go out to his sons, Jake and Josh.
R.I.P. Captain Phil. You will never be forgotten.
