Ask The Stylist; Winter Coats
Question
Hi!
I was wondering if you could help me, I’m trying to find a warm coat for winter but I’m not sure where to start. I’m 5ft 2in and I would preferably like it mid-thigh. I also have a 7 month old baby so it needs to be practical AND stylish. My budget is between €150- €200. Any suggestions you have would be great! Thanking you in advance.

Answer
Hi Claire
Thanks for the great question!
First thing you need to think about is avoiding anything novel or quirky. Find something that is classy, classic and will be wearable not only throughout this winter but for a few more winters to come. Shape is also important. An A-line is good for pear-shaped women, belted for curvy women and dressing-gown coats work for bigger girls. Finally, the fun bit starts with colour. Some say chose whatever shade makes you look amazing, regardless of what’s in vogue this season. Personally I’d ere on the side of caution and go for a classic shade such as camel, black, grey or navy. Then it will match most of your wardrobe, but there are other colours available that are just as flexible and will add fun to your look in the drearier months ahead.
There are lots of coat styles to choose from this year so, with all that in mind, let’s check out a few options:
A Timeless Trench
A classic, belted trench coat will never date. This winter the women’s Trench is shorter, sexier and more casual, typically cut above the knee and is made of lighter fabrics than the original. Highly visible on the catwalks in 2012 they continue to look great, regardless of seasonal trends such as changes in length or silhouette. They are an eternal classic coat style!

Twilight Blues
If Kate Middleton was a coat, this would be her. This fashion forward lovely has a tie belt which helps to accentuate those mini waists! Add that to the rich wool, silky texture and striking twilight-blue hue and you have a recipe for perfection!
Military
The military trend will never go out of style, no matter what year it is! They are also ideal for streamlining the figure. Tip: Curvy girls should stick to single-breasted coats. In the right colour and style military coats can create a commanding and edgy fashion statement.
