UPTON UNDER ATTACK

It is so sad to see how cruel the media can be sometimes.  Skinny Gossip, a site which labels itself as “pro-skinny” has written an extremely nasty and despicable post detailing all the ways in which they feel supermodel Kate Upton is too fat.  This type of site is obviously horrible when it comes to Upton herself but also it is a disgrace when you think of all the young people that potentially might see the site.

Jezebel has pointed out that Upton is “basically the epitome of curvy, blonde beauty,” that she “ticks every box”.  She is certainly a welcome variation to the size 0 model that has become the norm I would think.

The problem is, as with all models, while Upton is dealing with people calling her ‘too fat’ right now, if she lost any weight, she would almost certainly have to contend with people attacking her for being ‘too thin.’  Memories of all that Crystal Renn has gone through come flooding back.  When Renn lost weight, after the pressure she was put through with being called overweight, the press went crazy suggesting that she had relapsed back into her eating disorder.

PLUSModel magazine Editor-in-Chief Madeline Jones even stated that Renn had “betrayed” the plus-size community. So if Crystal Renn is too thin, and Kate Upton is too fat, then what is the “ideal”?  I think we need to realize this is very damaging to women worldwide.  Can’t we just set our own individual standards AKA what we feel healthy and happy with ourselves?

You know wherever we go or whatever we or Upton or Renn do there will always be someone or indeed a community of people who feels we do not look the way they would like us to look.  Upton, as we, will have to learn that when people say she is too fat, too skinny, too tall, too short, too pale, too whatever, the truth is, unless someone is suffering from an illness, she as we can never be “too” anything negative.
