Underwear as outerwear?  Here’s how to keep it chic and ditch the cheap!

1. Stand by your choice!

Don’t look as if you've 'fallen out' of your outfit. If you want to display a little of your lingerie, choose underwear that compliments your ensemble and make sure what you show appears as deliberately done in order to enhance your look. This will make it instantly sexy.

2. Opt for color and lace over smoothness and form

Remember shape creating underwear can be a lifesaver sometimes but not to be put on display.  Embrace this season's pastel and neon trends, and add a burst of color or a touch of lace to an outfit rather than nude or white. 

3. When in doubt, keep it classic!

If you're a little extravert you might have this groundbreaking moment of going crazy with this trend.  You don’t have to go expensive, padded, embroidered and embellished to create a memorable and long lasting effect.  Instead why not experiment with a classic black lace bra, and build up to more vivacious, animated shades and embellishments slowly as your confidence grows.  The underwear should not be the main performance (that’s for the bedroom) but should be the introduction to a very classy affair.

4. Embrace your underwear as your outerwear

Lingerie-style looks for evening dress does not have to involve the full blown Madonna look!   There are a variety of beautiful bralets and basques available and these are designed to be worn outside of the boudoir. If this trend seems daunting then try a long-line bralet which is an ideal way to start: team with a classic pencil skirt and layer under a fitted blazer or jacket. 

5. Straps definitely first, cups definitely second

You should experiment with revealing the straps of your bra before displaying your cups or cleavage. You can now buy attractive bra straps to hook onto boring strapless bras so you can always be on trend.  One of the best looks include lace or broderie anglaise straps peeping through your ensemble creations.

Remember it’s just like wearing a bikini but with more coverage through your clothing, so be confident!
