Not only do we now get to catch a sneak peak at Tom Ford's Spring 2012 collection, which will probably hit stores mid January, but the images released were shot by the fashion genius himself. Pencil skirts, peasant tops, raffia, lace, beading, fringe and leather seem to be the main focus of this 'Mexico' inspired collection. He feels loose blouses with a slouchy feel teamed with pieces fitted at the waist are sexy-classic. This topped off with a bondage style shoe, preferably wedges with chain detail are sure to be a huge trend. Perhaps the most interesting area of his latest collection is how he will be presenting it. Models will not strut down the catwalk in the usual manner within his show but in fact will be individually part of ten mini presentations by Tom himself, with each model standing beside him as he discusses in detail all of his intricate creations. This will involve him explaining his craftsmanship and detailed feather embroidery on open-work woven net and so on.
He has certainly come a long way since his YSL and Gucci days with his 'worked' surfaces reaching an incredibly high deluxe level. He maintains that the key to his brand success is 'classic clothes'. He hates when clothes do not have longevity and feels his pieces may be repeatedly worn from season to season. Tom understands a woman's form and he thinks hard about how women will feel in his creations. For example, his collection involves a trouser suit, with a cobalt-violet jacket and form fitting trousers that act like spanx and mold to the body achieving a sexy silhouette.
He is certainly a stunning artist and the extremely exciting news is that according to H&M creative advisor, Margereta Van Den Bosch a collaboration may be on the cards. This will probably be further examined after the David Beckham men's underwear collection is launched in February 2012.
