DIY Facial Mask for Gorgeous, Decongested Skin! The amazing Asprin Mask!

A typical professional chemical peel will cost you anywhere from €60-€150 depending on which one you go with and how deep you want to go, but there are so many affordable at-home tricks to achieving beautiful clear skin that I’ve decided to talk about one of my all-time favourites which is what’s commonly referred to as the “Aspirin Mask”. (Or Disperin to most of us!)

The "Aspirin Mask" has been around forever, although Dr. Oz came up with the brilliant idea of adding lemon juice to it. The lemon juice will give your skin a natural boost of vitamin C, further assisting in making this home treatment top notch.

This amazing, super simple, effective and downright cheap DIY skin treatment mask is perfect for those with congested, acne prone & oily/combo skin types. It's the best thing I’ve ever tried to eliminate black & white heads which even those of you with beautiful normal or drier skin types can benefit from. The mask can be applied all over or just to the areas that you tend to get clogged pores and/or breakouts.

How does it work?

Aspirin is actually a form of salicylic acid which is used in everything from chemical peels to skin creams used by most of the big name companies (Clinique, Lancôme, Estee Lauder, Clarins). Salicylic acid increases cell exfoliation and helps with discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles.

What you will need:

4 non coated aspirin/disperin tablets

1 tsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice

Baking soda

Cotton pads

Directions:

Simply take 4-5 aspirin depending how much of your skin you'll be masking. If you're doing just your nose or chin you'll only need 2 or 3. Crush up the tablets in a bowl using the back of a spoon.

Then add a few drops of Lemon juice and mix into the aspirin to get a smooth paste. Make sure not to use too much which will result in a very running texture that will drip off your face. Start with a small squeeze of lemon juice and add more if needed.

Apply it evenly across your face, avoiding the eye area.

Leave on for 10 minutes.

Remove with a cotton pad saturated with baking soda and cold water. The baking soda will help neutralize the peel. It may sting a bit when you remove it but this is normal.

If you’d prefer to skip the baking soda then simply rinse off with luke warm water (although I would highly recommend using it).

Follow up with a good moisturiser and you’re set!

The Aspirin Mask is quick and works – try doing the mask a night or two before a big event- it’s like an at-home mini-peel that makes your skin so smooth and helps your foundation glide on. You can do the mask as often as you’d like, as long as it doesn’t overly irritate your skin. Of course, if you’ve never done the mask before it’s best to do a patch test for allergies first on your neck.
