I’m not really sure what’s bigger news – that Rihanna’s new reality fashion television show is due to hit our screens in just a week’s time, or that former X Factor judge and pop tart Cheryl Cole (or Cheryl, as it appears she wants to be now known) is preparing to make her TV comeback.
Either way, it’s all going to be happening on Sky Living HD next Tuesday, August 14, as Cheryl is set to make a special guest appearance on Rihanna’s ‘Styled to Rock’, the biggest fashion reality show to ever hit our screens. We haven’t really seen much of Cheryl since Xfactor US-gate. We all know what happened with that particular situation so we won’t dwell, but it seems that after hiding away in the recording studio, Cheryl is ready to take to the TV cameras once again.
The starlet is just one of a host of musical stars set to feature on the new programme, with Katy Perry, the Scissor Sisters and Pixie Lott also confirmed to appear as guest mentors on the show. The programme is hosted by Cheryl’s former Girls Aloud bandmate, Nicola Roberts, and is said to see aspiring designers battling it out against one another in weekly competitions. Each guest star will take centre stage in their own episode and will set the contestants the challenge of creating a bespoke outfit for them, based on their specific instructions and requirements. Cheryl and the other judges will then choose their favourite design, which they will then wear at an upcoming public event.
In a trailer for what Rihanna describes as “THE biggest fashion gig”, the superstar says, “Fashion and music go hand in hand. I want something that’s fresh, original – I’m looking for the next trend-setting designer”.
The Saturdays, Rizzle Kicks, Little Mix, Katy B, Tynchy Stryder and Little Boots have all also been confirmed as guest judges, while Rihanna, who acts as executive producer for the show, will also make regular appearances. Rumour has it that while Calvin Harris has created and produced the title music for the show, hairdresser Nicky Clarke and his team will oversee hair and beauty.
With one contestant leaving the show every week, the eventual winner will have their outfit worn by Rihanna herself - at "her biggest London live gig in 2012".
Styled to Rock is a 10-part series and alongside the guest judge each week, the panel of mentors handpicked by Rihanna include Lysa Cooper, who has styled some of Rihanna’s most striking outfits, British designer Henry Holland, who runs the successful House of Holland.
