Emmys weekend is finally here and the stars of the small screen headed to Tinseltown for a host of parties ahead of the big awards ceremony on Sunday. Before I prepared myself to lose several hours sleep trying desperately to find an online stream to Sunday’s show I took a look at the stars who owned the red carpet at the pre-celebrations.

I’ve earmarked lace as the big trend of next season and there was plenty of it on the carpet with Mad Men's Christina Hendricks leading the pack, swathing her assets in black lace. 90210's Shanae Grimes opted for a similar look, although she chose to flash a little flesh in a dress with a see-through bra top and short skirt.

Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 star Krysten Ritter dazzled in a hot red laced pleated number, which unfortunately for her was see-through (aside from the black bodysuit faux pas, I'll forgive her), while Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery looked every inch the leading lady in black and shocking pink with a lace overlay. Over at the EW party Allison Williams of “Girls” personified elegance in an Oscar de la Renta hot pink dress with a see-through lace top and pencil skirt which was finished with a beautiful bow at the waist.

Television veteran Jennie Garth shone in a gold and white layered sequined dress matched with metallic heels and nominee Julia Louis Dreyfus embraced vibrant colour.

While awards shows usually see celebrities in safer colours, some were not afraid to embrace what the palette had to offer. Rumer Willis, daughter of Bruce and Demi turned heads in a plunging fuchsia dress by Issa London. Georgia King chanelled old Hollywood glamour in a strapless bright yellow ruched dress.

Notable mentions are deserved for Kiernan Shipka (the bratty Sally Draper on Mad Men) who is a trendsetter in the making pairing a black dress with two-tone shoes and ankle socks and the gorgeous Olivia Munn chose a sleek jaquard pleated Armani and dripped Bulgari jewels.
