Summer weather is here to stay (we hope) which means our wardrobes need some serious revamping.

Summer shorts are by nature (ahem) short. This season both high end boutiques and high street stores have been awash with extremely skimpy styles – with knee length city shorts or chic mid-thighs effectively far off the menu.

To a large degree the whole point of shorts is to be a little (or a lot) risqué – and if there isn’t a hint of sex appeal you can easily stray into that dreaded tourist territory (think khakis cut off with baggy bums and big pockets aka not a good look). However, generally speaking visible bum and inner thigh areas are ALWAYS inappropriate to have on display. 

In regards to the overabundance of lingerie enthused shorts available currently with silk running shorts and lace edged numbers very much hitting the market, one may need to pay attention to some words of warning. If you are keen to plump for this style in for example the workplace, you need to be careful what you pair them with. A crop top (as made popular again with D&G) is a NO GO AREA and the same goes for any cleavage revealing styles.

Instead consider boyish tees, silk blouses (for an on-trend pyjama look), crisp white shirts and light linen blazers.  Pairing these looks with flat sandals or modest block heels are also good ideas because otherwise you might get those nasty looks from colleagues we just tell ourselves are wrong and only jealous.
