Yesterday it was confirmed after months of speculation, that a prequel series to the infamous Sex and The City sitcom is in the pipeline. After a successful 6 year run on our screens, the show which introduced us the idea of the modern woman; single, successful and independent, has left a lasting legacy on pop culture and the way in which we perceive the 21st century woman.

The four woman depicted; petite columnist Carrie, powerful publisist Samantha, sassy lawyer Miranda and hopeless romantic Charlotte, evidently all have oodles of personal style, with impressive wardrobes to boot. The show's costume designer Patricia Field created iconic outfits for the four leading ladies which still pack a punch over a decade later.

Carrie Bradshaw is the ultimate New York girl about town, telling it like it is in her column for the New York Times. Since the moment she first graced our scenes in that infamous $5 tutu, Carrie became a style icon in her own right for women across the world. Her style is best described as kooky and vintage, with dollops of fun and always paired with a Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahnik court. Carrie appears dressed to the nines in every episode, never surrendering her trademark heels, even when confronted by an armed robbed Carrie begged for him to take anything other than her precious Manolos.

To pay hommage to Carrie, pair fur coats with little embelished dresses, pin large flower corsages on anything from dresses to jumpers and accessorise simple tanks with multiple strands of pearls. Carrie has a killer body and isn't afraid to flaunt it; pioneering cropped knits and sheer blouses with coloured peekaboo lingerie. To channel one of my favourite outfits; team a micky mouse or a similarly retro tee with a crisp white blazer. And don't forget the ultimate accessory; her name plate necklace.

Miranda Hobbes knows a thing or two about power dressing. As a top lawyer, she commands attention in the board room in her sharp suits and clever accessorising. Miranda's "go-to" look is a black suit with a crisp white shirt, statement necklace, earrings or brooch and a large clutch bag. Miranda often chooses a dark palette for evening wear and ups the ante in stappy, mesh or boat neck LBDs.

To channel Miranda, tailored basics are key. She often pairs fitted blazers in different shades with tshirts or tanks and a pencil skirt for casual wear, or a polo neck jumper with a mannish coat. For night time, Miranda was before her time with mesh black body con dresses, an abundance of which can now be found on the High Street.

Samantha Jones is the successful publicist with ego and chutzpah to put city bachelors to shame. As confident in her dressing as she is in the bedroom, Sam uses colour and glitzy accessories to make sure an outfit pops and that all eyes are on her.

Samantha's office wear wardrobe comprises of suits in eye catching colours and statement gold jewellery. A look that this lady has been pioneering for years is colour blocking, which has had a revival as of late. You can emulate her designer suit look at a fraction of the price by pairing bright blazers with tailored trousers from the High Street. Samantha dresses for herself and no one else, donning flirty mini printed dresses and party wear for all the PR events she attends. She also has an air of old Hollywood glamour about her style, evident in her funeral outfit choice of white fur coat and wide brimmed hat seen above.

Gallery owner, and sophisticated wasp Charlotte York has high standards and chooses classy and polished outfits.Charlotte has never dared to wear sweats in public or appear anything less than primped and preened to perfection. To nod to the posh girl's safe and conservative style, select tweed blazers, houndstooth prints, a-line skirts, cable knits and modest but glamorous evening wear.
