Rise of the Romantic Goth
Any fashionista with her finger on the trend pulse will now be aware that the resurgence of leather is a trend that will be everywhere once the high season Autumn/Winter 12 hits our high streets and fashion boutiques in the not so distant future.
Now I know that the appearance of leather for the Autumn season is not ground breaking by any means as this versatile material is notable on the catwalk each time the Summer season gives way to its chillier and (in my opinion) more stylish counterpart, A/W.
This season will see leather becoming a major player and in many cases, the back bone to a plethora of fashion collections in contrast to previous seasons when this delectable material served as merely an accent for other designs and textiles.
This season, the leather look is strong, sharp and feminine and the main focus for an outfit and not just confined to the usual accessories as we are now accustomed. The look is high fashion, glossy and immensely chic with cheeky nods to latent fetishism and the glamour of the modern haute couture gothic. Sharp tailoring, clean lines and asymmetry transform this classic fashion staple into an updated, wholly modern and romanticised version of the atypical angst ridden Goth look.
Last season’s most popular piece, the dress, will take a back seat this season in favour of more wearable leather separates. Tops and skirts will be popular as well while the leather dress does make a brief appearance and the biker jacket will be a strong focal point of the season. Real leather pieces are luxurious and expensive but quality is paramount when opting for this look so you can look as sleek and sharp as the look deserves.
The biker jacket will be one key piece to invest in this season that will see you through the next few years. Wear it in a more masculine style and pair it with dainty feminine pieces to keep your style fresh and innovative.
