Being “too sexy” is certainly not the worst reason to get the boot from an ad campaign, which is what has happened to Bajan beauty, Rihanna. The new head of Nivea's parent company Beiersdorf, Stefan Heidenreich, publicly expressed disapproval with the skin care line's decision to have the star as the face of the brand's 100th anniversary saying; "I do not understand how to bring the core brand of Nivea in conjunction with Rihanna, Nivea is a company which stands for trust, family and reliability," and added that the singer's ad shots last year should have “never aired”.
When Nivea signed Rihanna last year, they were said to have been very excited to have her on board, their PR wing said: “We are excited to have Rihanna supporting us in our celebration and building a new generation of fans. Rihanna is a music icon”. Not only did RiRi appear in the multi-million ad campaign but her song California King Bed featured in tv adverts and Nivea sponsored her world tour, Loud.
Well never the quiet wall flower, Rihanna posted a picture of Heidenreich to her Twitter with the words – “LOL...No caption necessary”.
Next time around clearly Nivea will be looking for more Brady Bunch than Bajan beauty!
