Emma Watson is one of the latest celebs to don one of Raf Simon's creations for the house of Dior. As you can see his designs are super wearable fresh off the runway, however I'm still a little undecided on this outfit. I do love the idea of layering up dresses over pants, especially with this chilly weather creeping in. I LOVE the original runway version of this outfit, but I reckon Miss Watson could should have kept the original cut out at the bust and chosen a tigher tailored pant, making the whole ensemble more fitted and defined. It is Dior Couture after all, why mess with perfection?
Raf Simons' is a Belgian fashion designer. In April 2012, it was announced that Simons would replace Bill Gaytten as creative director at the helm of DIOR. His collections up until now have been predominantly menswear. His style has been described as "tortured youth" or "live fast, die Bohemian" and often combines strongly cut classic menswear with sharp lines. The pictures below are from Simons' Spring/Summer 2011 Collection.
His masculine tailoring and dominant cuts have clearly been translated into this years looks for Dior womenswear Fall/Winter 2012, the "dress-over-pants combo" that we seen above on Emma Watson is a clear demonstation of his influence. Raf Simons' has been cited as one of the most important innovators in contemporary menswear by international press, and I really do think that his arrival at Dior can only spell good things for the brand.
Jessica Biel, Julianne Moore and Rachel Weisz have all popped up on best dressed list's recently wearing Raf Simons' designs for Dior Couture Fall 2012 and they do look fabulous, the tailoring when kept original is very flattering and the individual style of each of the dresses below, lets us know this designer is not afraid to experiment.
I cant help but think that Raf Simon's influence will soon be copied on the highstreet, where (fingeres crossed) I should be able to pick myself up a few great key pieces for the office in early 2013. Just a prediction!
