Love it or hate it; the spooky season is in full swing. Yes, Halloween is a-coming folks and if there is one accessory on your must-have list for the occasion; it has to be a designer pumpkin.

A designer pumpkin I hear you ask? Do they stock those in Harvey Nichols?

Funnily enough, despite its rise in popularity in recent years; the designer pumpkin appears to be the one accessory money can’t buy. BUT, fortunately for the more frugal fashionista out there; with a bit of imagination, a regular old pumpkin from your local supermarket, and a carving pattern; you can tap in to the trend and save your pennies for that pair of Louboutins you’ve always dreamed of.....instead of blowing a wad of cash on what is; technically, a piece of fruit.

Pay homage to your favourite designers, extend your personal sense of style, and put your neighbours to shame by transforming the traditional emblem of Halloween into a designer-esque work of art.

Not a fan of the predicable pumpkin myself, this year I’ve opted for a ‘Hello Kitty’ inspired jack-o’-lantern; which I drew freehand. But, there are lots of great and very stylish carving patterns out there to choose from.

One of my personal favourites has to be the classic yet chic 'Chanel' pumpkin, for which I’ve detailed step-by-step instructions below.

If you’re not so handy with sharp tools; it may be wise to go for a decorative painted pumpkin like these instead.

Happy carving y’all!

HOW TO CARVE YOUR VERY OWN CHANEL PUMPKIN:

1.       Draw a circle with a marker on the top of the pumpkin around the stalk.

2.       Using a sharp knife (use with caution!), cut a lid using the circle as a guide.

3.       Once the lid is taken off, use a spoon to empty the inside of the pumpkin. You can keep the pumpkin flesh for cooking, or to make a home-made face mask!

4.       Take your Chanel carving template (you can download this online and print) and fix to the flattest side of the pumpkin using sellotape.

5.        Carefully cut along the lines – creating a ‘Chanel’ logo.

6.       Push through the pieces you have cut away, and tidy up the inside of the pumpkin.

7.       Place tea lights inside your pumpkin, replace the lid..et voila!
