Oh H&M how do you do it? Hot on the heels of our 'fashion shower' with Anna Dello Russo's accessories collection, we can now see the entire Maison Martin Margiela offering. Any who are familiar with the brand will recognise the exaggerated shaped and pared back pieces.
The capsule collection has all the wardrobe stapes including the perfect coat, a great black dress and the ultimate suit. The men's pieces are 'reissues' from the MMM archives, 'for those who were too young to buy the originals.' If you're planning on queing for this one you're going to have to wait until November 15th, when it hits stores.
The announcement of the pairing of MMM and H&M raised some eyebrows and many still aren't convinced that the brand's aesthetic will translate to the mass market. This is the label who, for their SS'13 showing, covered an entire Parisian room in white plastic and sent tent-like t-shirts down the catwalk (they also only take interview questions by fax!).
Their 'look' has always been minimal but of the highest quality; just how can that remain when mass production is necessary? The H&M collecion will be priced from about €50 and will run up to almost €200, while over at the regular Margiela line you can buy a black blazer for €1,300!
This is the same question that was asked about every other H&M designer collaboration but maybe it's more common for the MMM one because craftsmanship and quality are so important for their clothes to work. So what do you think of the pieces?
Will you be lining up on a chilly November morning for them? Also if you've ever bought anything from one of these collections in the past, how did you find the quality? Let us know!
