I spend a lot of time ogling things online that I declare myself ‘In Lust’ with, but there’s a big difference between a lust have item and a must have item. Not only in price but also in necessity. Whilst forever an advocate of spending money on one, expensive item as opposed to several cheaper things, I’ve had to adjust my shopping habits as my out goings have increased. For example my new car was a lust have item, but with money going out every month to repay this debt, my pot of money for lustful items needs to be examined with a lot more scrutiny!
I’ve never been taken by counterfeit designer bags or shoes as I feel they devalue a brand and its worth. I bought a counterfeit once and had so little regard for it I vowed going forward to either save up in advance or find a more affordable bag from a good, high street brand like Reiss or Zara. Fake handbags are badly made and easy to spot, leather bags from Zara for example are made from high quality materials and are known for both their durability and craftsmanship. It's important to prioritize the value of more expensive items in your wardrobe, how often will you wear it? Will it work well with pieces currently in your wardrobe? Or will you need to purchase several other things to create an outfit around the item?
If you are a big jewellery fan, you can comfort yourself that you are making a solid investment that will most likely hold its value. There are lots of luxury watch dealers online that sell beautiful second hand pieces, like Cartier and Rolex watches, pay a fraction of the price for a pre-loved, perfect conditioned time piece. Antique jewellery stores, such as Rhinestones and Jenny Vander offer vintage sparkle at more affordable prices.
I couldn't fail to mention Ebay, I've had relatively good success with buying items on Ebay, and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Don't forget about selling items, have a clear out with a bunch of friends and agree to put the lot on Ebay, you won't make a fortune but you will earn some return on past investments.
If you have thought about it long and hard, and truly have decided you need said particular lust have item in your life, be diligent and save a little every month, also if its your birthday or Christmas coming up, ask family and friends for vouchers or money towards the item, and slowly but surely you will get there. I’m not so sure if this applies to my number 1 lust have item below, do Cartier take installments??!!
