Grammy Awards 2012

After the stunning news of Whitney Houston's passing on Saturday, it was expected that the 54th Grammy Awards would be one long memorial to the legendary singing icon.  And while there were some stirring moments eulogizing the Grammy icon, Houston's passing quickly became an afterthought to Adele's dominating night that saw the adorable singer take home 6 awards. Showing up at the 2012 Grammy Awards in a custom made Giorgio Armani black gown, Adele proves that she's as fashionable as she is talented. Katty Perry also seriously amazed us with two perfect outfit choices and Rihanna stole the show on the red carpet in a plunging black creation. In the quirky style stakes Lady Gaga and rapper Nicki Minaj didn’t disappoint with the first lady of pop donning a PVC dress with netting, while Nicki Minaj arrived in a Little Red Riding Hood style layered red caped dress, on the arm of a man dressed as the Pope!. With that in mind, here are all the fashion hits and misses of what will no doubt become one of the most remembered Grammys ever.

Showing off her svelte figure in a bell-sleeved sequinned black dress by Giorgio Armani, Adele looked every inch the Hollywood siren as she swanned down the Grammy's red carpet. The "Someone Like You" singer completed her look with Harry Winston 12.4 carat diamond micropave ring set in platinum. We especially love her new blonder locks! 

Katy Perry showed off a new blue hairstyle that she matched to her sky hued Elie Saab couture gown with belted sash. Diamond earrings and bracelet by Norman Silverman valued at a whopping $2 million completed her glitzy look. The newly divorced singer later changed into a gold embellished Gucci gown to watch the awards.

Carrie Underwood sparkled in a white, long-sleeved Gomez-Gracia gown with an open back.

Rihanna was simply stunning in this plunging black silk custom Giorgio Armani gown. The dress featured a 'how low can you go' neckline that is complimented by a high slit, a dramatically open back and a mermaid silhouette with an elegant train. While Riri's hair was a bit too messy for such a sleek dress, we think her overgrown hair roots thumbed the sexy side of tousled and added to her look!

Lady GaGa often stole the spotlight with her outrageous fashion. In fact, the singer made headlines with her giant egg entrance at last year's Grammy Awards. 2012 offered a different story though. GaGa opted to go with a custom Chanel creation. The 25-year-old, who skipped the red carpet and headed straight to her seat inside Los Angeles' Staples Center, showed off a lot of her skin in the see-through number but covered her face behind a mask of black netting. 29-year-old Minaj, on the other hand, caused quite a scene when she arrived on the red carpet in a red hooded gown by Donatella Versace, the "Roman Holiday" singer was escorted by an old man dressed like the Pope.

Alicia Keys looked classic and chic in an Alexandre Vauthier dress that she teamed with Christian Louboutin shoes. Meanwhile Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her statuesque figure in a cut-out Stella McCartney gown cinched-in with a gold belt.

Fergie surprised everyone with her choice of outfit for the evening. The 36-year-old Black Eyed Peas front woman hit the red carpet in an orange sheer Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture gown teamed with black lingerie underneath to cover her modesty. Kelly Osbourne, in the meantime, is still insisting on trying the nanna hair shade of lilac on for size. Once it could have been a head turner, but now it's getting old, and making Kelly look older. A sparkly one shoulder dress by Tony Ward did little to help things.

23 year old Jessie J wowed the crowds in a hot to trot Julien Macdonald creation made with what seemed like a charcoal metallic material and Kelly Rowland looked gorgeous in an embroidered Alberta Ferretti gown.

Paris Hilton surprised us all in a good way when She chose a white and gold grecian dress from Basil Soda and matched it with a massive ring and Taylor Swift looked stunning as usual in a nude silk mermaid gown by Zuhair Murad, Shoes by Prada, and jewels by Neil Lane. She never fails to impress in a red carpet situation.

Adam Levine rocked the red carpet in a fine suit, but his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna seemed to have forgotten a good portion of her dress! The Victoria's Secret model has a super svelte body... but is that just cause to show the world her bikini line? Amber Rose, meanwhile who usually likes to shock public with her attires, opted for a simple yellow Versace gown to wear on the red carpet.
