Grace Coddington, former model and creative director and stylist at American Vogue has designed a collection for Balenciaga inspired by her cat, Pumpkin. The Coddington collection, designed with Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere will debut in Balenciagas boutique, located in New York's Meatpacking District.
The limited edition leather and canvas $1000 bags feature Coddington's sketches of Pumpkin, modelling Nicolas Ghesquiere's most iconic Balenciaga creations from the last ten years, dotted across the tangerine fabric. Toting it around would definitely get you noticed! The collection also includes two Pumpkin printed scarves, which come in either wool or silk. The collection was designed for Fashion's Night Out 2012, which takes place this year on September 6th. This is the events fourth year and it's a chance for fashion editors, models, celebrities and all fashion lovers to flood stores located across various fashion capitals of the world.
The legendary Grace, known for her head of bobbing flame-red hair and endearing appearance in 2009's The September Issue has designed the collection keeping the Hampton's Animal Rescue Fund in mind. For each Pumpkin piece bought, Balenciaga is donating 20 percent to the organisation, who provide for the welfare of cats and dogs on Long Island.
It seems the fashion world has embraced their feline friends as the latest trend, after Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld found inspiration in his own cat, Choupette, for his latest collection. Choupette, who has two 'assistants' and requires 24 hour attention currently has over 15,000 followers on Twitter. With Grace Coddington's cat playing a starring role for Balenciaga at this years glamourous Fashion Night Out, Pumpkin will be giving Choupette a run for her money!
