Elie Saab presented a romantic collection of ivory and pastel hues of powder blue, rose and wheat for his spring 2012 haute couture show in Paris on Wednesday. Known for designing many red carpet creations, this season had its fair share of Oscars ready fare ranging from crystal embellished floor length gowns to leafy prints in mint green. Our money's on one of the amazing mint green numbers, perhaps worn by 'The Artist' star Berenice Bejo, who sat in the front row for the show. "I love Elie Saab. It's so beautiful," Bejo said of the breath-taking designs. "I wear him all the time." There were also peach, cream and a profusion of pale pink gowns, making up an ice-cream hued collection of heavily embellished and textured dresses and gowns. Much of the fabric was sheer above and below the waist, gently revealing models' torsos and legs underneath.
Though there were some structured suits and shorter dresses, Saab is not a designer you look to for daywear. He's all about romantic glamour and serious attention to detail. Saab said he found his inspiration in fairytales. "In this collection I thought about a very modern princess, I thought of the fairytales which all girls dream of in order to come up with this collection which I hope you'll like. Concerning colours, I thought of very soft colours but ones that still retained the dazzle I wanted to achieve in this collection," he said after the show. The delicate showing also offered ladylike lace works and sequined paillettes for a sweetly refined take on couture. If we were the lead in a fairytale, this is what we'd wear.
