If like me you grew up in the 80's you'll know the sheer delight felt when your mother relented and let you stay up way past your bedtime to watch Dallas. Ireland was in the grips of Ewing family hysteria and even my deeply religious seventy year old Scottish neighbour would come over to our house every week to shout profanities at bad boy older brother JR Ewing. We tuned in without fail to see brothers JR and Bobby do battle for the clans Texan oil fortune in a classic good versus evil plotline but more importantly to see what their various lady friends were wearing. You can imagine my delight when this week the next generation of Ewing clan plus a few old favourites made their way back onto our screens. The new series sees cousins John Ross and Christopher take up where their fathers left off and the glamour and back stabbing is no less intense.
The way they were....
There may not be a shoulder pad or leg warmer in sight this time round (collective sigh of relief) but the glossy hair and southern belle style still remain. Here's a how to guide on how to fit in should you ever be invited for supper at Southfork with the clan. Stetsons optional.
The new guard
No self respecting southern lady would be without a wardrobe full of denim. Keep yours highwaisted and with a dark wash, perfect for tucking tops and shirts into and also extremely flattering. Pair with some Isabel Marant style ankle boots for your day time dallas look.
I love this pair from New Look
Now many of you may recoil in horror when I say this but you need to rock a denim/denim combo. Keep your washes shades apart and nobody will think you're a reject member of Status Quo.
This beauty from New Look again keeps your look modern by adding a touch of tartan to the shoulders.
These ladies may hack around all day on their ranches, riding ponies and such but once the sun sets its a full on battle of the glamazons. Keep it sparkly and sequined to achieve the look. Sequined tees and blazers are a more subtle way to rock the look.
Sequins and lace are a key look you can find them everywhere at the moment and come November you won't be able to get away from them..Hurrah!!
You might rock a flat ankle boot by day but at night it's all about the statement heel to finish off your look. While the texan heiress might have a closet full of Loubes us shoestring gals can get the look for less from the high street.
Metallics toughen up these sugary pink Topshop heels.
