Cut-out dresses have been a consistent trend on the red carpet for a few months, with some of our favourite celebs showcasing their Pilates toned abs in this very creative and uber sexy way. Nicole Richie, Olivia Wilde and Nikki Reed are just a few of the stars who have been spotted on the red carpet in dresses with bold cut out panels. These dresses look alluring, seductive and flash just the right amount of skin without revealing too much. And, when done properly gives off maximum sex appeal without being trashy. Not just short dresses, floor sweeping gowns with cut out detailing on side panels, neckline and back look exquisite too. Whatever area you choose to highlight, a cut out dress or gown is sure to be a no fail option for any special event this party season. While a cut out dress adds oomph factor, it is also true that it is not for everyone. If you’re bold enough to pull it off, then you should take into consideration a few points.
Go for a dress that highlights one particular area. Cut-outs all over is a risky option, so opt for some but not too much. Stick to one (maybe two, tops) subtle cut-outs, and have them both hit the same general area of your body. If your entire stomach is exposed, or you look like you just lost a fight to a cat, DON’T go out in public.
Secondly, keep the rest of the look simple and sophisticated. You’re already making a pretty bold statement with your cut-out, so try and keep the rest of your outfit simple and don’t overdo it on the accessories. The same rule applies for your hair and makeup. You want to look chic and classy, not gaudy and trashy.
Next important point is to make sure your cut outs are placed in the right area that flatters your body shape. If you’ve got abs of steel then cut in the front. If you’ve got a sexy back (or just bringing sexy back!) choose cut outs on the reverse to show it off. Whatever you love about yourself, accent it! Just don’t accent it TOO much…(see #1 above).
Lastly, avoid this style of dress for a daytime event. If you’re going for a night party however, you cannot get better than a sexy cut out dress. And always, before stepping out of the house, make sure your dress is in check and nothing inappropriate is peeking out. Because really, what’s more embarrassing than showing up to The Oscars with your nips in full view?
