A new publicity still from the hotly anticipated Carrie Diaries has surfaced online; the 18-year-old star of the show AnnaSophia Robb is pictured hailing a cab looking every inch the mini-fashionista in a red puffball prom dress.

The Carrie Diaries is the prequel to iconic sitcom Sex and The City, with Robb playing a young, naive Carrie Bradshaw. The latest still published by TV network CW shows Robb looking uncanny to Sarah Jessica Parker’s fictional alter ego on the streets of New York.

 The relatively unknown actress secured her big break earlier this year when she was announced as the young Carrie, putting to bed rumours that Blake Lively and Miley Cyrus had bagged the role.

The show follows New York’s original ‘it’ girl in her senior year of high school as she embarks on a journey of self discovery. It is 1984 and Carrie, aged 16, has recently lost her mother and is left under the care of her protective father Tom. The show will centre around Carrie’s final days in school in Conneticut, her relationship with transfer student Sebastian Kydd and her desire to move to the Big Apple for the summer where an internship at a law firm has been arranged. While in New York, Carrie fatefully meets style-editor Larissa and that’s where her adventures really begin.

The Carrie Diaries project was developed by Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and as fashion was such a pivotal part of Sex and the City, Gossip Girl stylist Eric Damon has been enlisted as costume designer.  

The Carrie Diaries is set to air on CW in January 2013.
