There are countless reasons why denim has stood the test of time and remained fashionable since its intoduction to the world by one Levi Strauss. Each era has its definitive denim; from bell bottoms to stone washed to baggy hipsters. Arguably the most versatile staple in your wardrope, denim is the simplest way to dip your feet into the candy coloured pastel craze that's set to sweep 2012.

ASOS.com offer denim in every sorbet shade from peach to lemon strawberry, and all priced under €50, you get plenty of bang for your buck.

As always, River Island is also hot off the mark with a range of similarly piced jeans in a variety of shades from mint to lemon sherbert.

Such sugary sweet shades may conjure up images of childhood tea party outfits or United Colours of Benetton circa the 1990s, but this trend is strictly for the style forward grownups. The key to avoid looking like Malibu Barbie, is to tone down the denim with neutral pairings and balance the proportions.

Pair your sugary skinnys with over sized slouchy knits in creams, whites and beiges for an early Spring look. (L-R: River Island x2, Mango)

The humble white tee is every girl's best friend as it allows for easy catwalk to wardrobe transition. Pairing pastel jeans with a loose fit tee instantly updates the simplest of outfits to a trend conscious match made in heaven. Alternatively, Zara offer sheer, silk blouses in a range of shapes and fits that will pull together this look perfectly. (Slouchy tee from a variety at ASOS, Sheer blouse: Zara)

For dayime, go for a nude ballet pump or simple trainer or dress things up with a leg lenghtening nude court. (Topshop flats, Superga trainers @ASOS, Perspex heels from Mango)
