Bright Trousers

No one wants to wear boring colours in spring when everything looks so lively making this the perfect time to bring in some vivid colours and freshen up things a bit. Bright Trousers have become the ideal Spring/summer trend for doing this and have appeared quite naturally over the last few seasons. They were either teamed up with other vivid clothing items and accessories or more reserved and neutral pieces. The same rules apply to you when combining colours. Pairing brights with brights is a sure fire way to make a statement. But, be careful and remember you are not a toddler. Colours are great but never overdo! The secret to getting it right? Use basic colour theory and keep the main colours within the same colour temperature. Accessories also play a major role as they support the brights and help create a worked out look. Play with colourful details like jewellery, shoes and bags to create unique combinations. However, the safest bet is to pair them with neutrals like greys, off whites and soft pastels. Black is also a serious and chic partner for most brights (though tricky with yellow and orange). Choose accessories in neutrals like tan and metallic which work wonderfully well to hold the look together.

Celebrities like Naomi Watts, Nicola Roberts, Louise Row and others have already added colourful pants into their wardrobes and are breezily working the trend. If you are thinking of investing in your own pair, remember that the fit comes first. Even in a gorgeous hue, a badly fitting pair of pants can do bad things to your figure: accentuating hips, making your bum look wider and doing very un-kind things to thighs. When a perfectly fitting pair is doing its job, your legs will look longer and leaner. So, before you start coveting a pair in any particular shade, be sure to carefully examine their shape and assess if they’ll be good on yours. A moderate flare or boot cut style is tailor-made to balance a pear-shaped woman’s hips and thighs. Petite figures can pull off body skimming ankle cropped slacks. And if you’re fuller figured, choose wide leg pants with a high rise. These will visually create a straight line from your hip downwards, elongating along the way. As far as colour goes, you’re only limited by your confidence. Warmer shades seem more daring than cool-based ones. For some, bright blue or green may feel much more wearable than sunny yellow or shocking pink. Stick to what you feel comfortable with. And if you find a fab pair in a shade you’re not sure about, at least take them to the fitting room. You could be surprised to learn you are a red pants person after all.
