He is a well recognised Irish music star who has worked with international music artists such as Van Morrison as well as sharing the stage with music greats that include Ray Charles and Bob Dylan to name a few. Belfast born Brian Kennedy who was a recent coach and mentor on RTE’s The Voice, chats to Fashion.ie about his life so far and what it’s like to share a house with the crazy but beautiful Katherine Lynch.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?
The Falls Road. West Belfast, Co Antrim.

DESCRIBE YOUR UPBRINGING?
Eventful to say the least. War torn. Explosive and life threatening on a daily basis.

IF YOU WERE NOT A SINGER WHAT CAREER PATH DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD HAVE CHOSEN?
A physchotherapist please.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN THREE WORDS?
Loyal, Optimistic, Kissable.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
Sheer grit, determination, naivety, and relocating to London. Oh yeh, and a bit of talent thrown in.

ARE YOU CONCIOUS ABOUT YOUR APPERANCE?
Yes. It's ever evolving. I work out these days with @bodybyrne and it's incredible what you can do with your body with exercise and proper eating.

BRIAN WITH OTHER COACHES ON THE VOICE (L-R) BRIAN, KIAN, SHARON & BRESSIE

AFTER BEING A COACH ON THE VOICE, WOULD YOU CONSIDER A FULL-TIME CAREER IN TV?
Yes. If the right gig came along. I'd love a Graham Norton style show.

MOST EMBARRESSING THING TO HAPPEN TO YOU?
It usually involves Farting in inappropriate places like planes or waiting rooms.

DESCRIBE A TYPICAL WORKING DAY OF BRIAN KENNEDY?
It's typically unpredictable. Now that the album is out I'm doing a lot of travelling and interviews and performances. I could be singing for the Queen of England one day and Dublin Pride festival the next. I love it all.

IF YOU COULD DUET WITH ANYONE IN THE WORLD WHO WOULD YOU CHOSE AND WHY?
Aretha Franklin or Tony Bennett. They are the best of their generation and it would be incredible.

WHAT IS YOUR OWN PERSONAL FAVORITE SONG YOU HAVE WRITTEN AND WHY?
Wow. So many that I'm proud of. Probably ‘Christopher Street’ because it sums up my time in New York or ‘Only All The Time’ from the new album ‘Voice’. It really came out of a very dark time and I'm proud of the expression. Writing songs are sometimes all about righting wrongs.

BRIAN AND EX-HOUSEMATE KATHERINE LYNCH

WHO WOULD YOU ADMIRE AS MUSIC ARTIST TODAY?
George Michael. Adele. Beyonce.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO YOURSELF?
Everything old and new. The new Ultravox album is great. Ryan Sheridan. Declan O'Rourke.

ARE YOU FASHION CONCIOUS AND WHY?
Sometimes. Ingrid Hoey is our stylist on ‘The Voice’ so she's giving me great sartorial advice. I'm very casual at home but like to dress up for TV and gigs.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING CLOTHES?
I like well made Clothes and try to favour Irish designers when I can. And can't resist a sale but it's not always a good idea. Clothes maketh the Man most of the time!

YOU SPENT TIME LIVING WITH KATHERINE LYNCH, WAS IT A MAD HOUSE TO LIVE IN?
She Lived with me at my place. It was a roller coaster ride and she's one of the funniest women ever.

BRIAN PERFORMING AS THE IRISH ENTRY FOR THE EUROVISION 2006

WHAT UPSETS BRIAN KENNEDY AND WHY?
Homophobia. Lateness. Dishonesty and lack of marriage equality in Ireland. Oh and bad coffee.

YOU APPEARED IN THE CELEBRITY VERSION OF COME DINE WITH ME. IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH 3 PEOPLE PAST OR PRESENT WHO WOULD YOU CHOSE?
Oprah, Oscar Wilde, Judge Judy.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A SUCCESSFUL RECORDING MUSIC ARTIST NOWADAYS?
A truckful of luck. Commitment from the record company. Talent and time. Ambition and Hard work.

WHAT MUSIC PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE FUTURE?
More albums. Keep getting better at what I do. A nationwide tour and then into the rest of the world.
