The magazine world has left 2011 behind, with most January issues already on the newsstand. The only thing left to do is rate which famous faces secured top sales. WWD has issued their annual report on the year’s best and worst selling American covers, a true sign of who was hot in 2011.
Mila Kunis was the breakout star this year. Her cover of GQ made it the best selling issue of 2011, while she also brought in heightened sales for Cosmopolitan, Elle and W.
Some of the top sellers come as no surprise, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston and Heidi Klum earning their places on the cover of countless magazines over the year.

Surprisingly, two of the world’s biggest musicians didn’t fare so well. Justin Bieber’s Vanity Fair cover was the magazine’s third worst selling issue in twenty years.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga’s October cover of Harper’s Bazaar proved to be their third worst seller of 2011. But, surprisingly, her March Vogue cover and May Harper’s Bazaar cover turned out to be the magazine’s second and third best selling covers respectively.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the Kardashian clan’s inconsistent success rate. Turns out they are not the newsstand gold that may have been expected. Kim covered both Glamour and Cosmopolitan’s best selling issues of 2011. But her cover of Harper’s Bazaar, Self and Lucky only pulled in average sales. Looks like momma Jenner has some work to do rebuilding her daughter’s reputation.
