British designer Alice Temperley, famous for her trademark classic English designs and for being a favourite of Kate Middleton has designed a new and exclusive collection for department store John Lewis.

Somerset by Alice Temperley, the designer's first foray into high street fashion, is a 60 piece collection that takes inspiration from Victoriana using lashes of ruffles and lace, boho accents, flashes of military chic, striking animal print and and monochrome. Photographer Tom Craig created a short film starring Lily Donaldson and sister Aurelia to highlight the city meets country mood of the collection which sees the strongest work in chic workwear looks and sexy party dresses.

Temperley, who named the Somerset line after her childhood home has drawn inspiration from her memories of the idyllic English county: "Being where I grew up and where I disappear to whenever I can; it represents stillness, timelessness, lifestyle and a romance."

My choice pieces include the camel coloured coat cape, an outerwear piece that's a little pricey as it's cashmere but will never date; a demure chiffon insert dress that paired with a cardi and ankle boots is a gorgeous workwear ensemble. The long lace dress is very contemporary Downton and the spot mesh shift dress is perfect partywear.

Above: Temperley's John Lewis collection: the cape coat; a quintessential autumnal piece and an instant workwear classic - the monochrome chiffon dress

Above: A lace dress worthy of a Crawley heiress or a shift with a chic twist make for show stopping partywear.

Above: Ruffles, leather, animal print and shimmering fabrics are some of the highlights from Temperley's collection.

While we don't have John Lewis on this side of the pond; never fear as it's available to buy online but you'd better hurry - it's become the fastest selling brand in the store’s history and is selling out fast. Next month sees the addition of partywear ahead of the impending festive season.
